ST JOHN RECREATION AND TRAINING CAMP

StJohn Ambulance cadets of the school held a training and recreation camp at the school premises during the recent school holiday.
It was from 1st June to 3rd June 2009. Various activities such as first aid, marching, cooking test and other challenging games were carried out.
The cadets not only learnt various skills but also enjoyed themselves at the same time. Kudos to the teacher advisors and also to some ex-St John members who came back to help.
ST. JOHN LEADERSHIP CAMP
A group of cadets from the school St John Ambulance took part in a leadership camp organised by the state St John Ambulance Malaysia in collaboration with the State Education Department at the Co-curriculum Centre in Bukit Mertajam.
The training camp was from 8th to 11th of June 2009. The aim was to encourage the students to be active and also to upgrade the knowledge and skills of the members.
GANG SHOW 2009

On the 26 June 2009, six Girl Guide members took part in the Gang Show 2009 held at Wisma Pandu Puteri, Penang. The main objective of the show was to scout for new talent among the girl guides and also to foster co-operation among them.
22 teams from 16 schools in Penang took part in the show which was held in conjunction with the 90th anniversary of the guide's movement.
The guides of the school presented a Malay cultural dance with the name "Joget Cinta Sakti." Two teacher advisors also went to give support to the team. They are Miss Chew and Puan Aida.
A VISIT TO HEALTH CLINIC
Members of the school Health Club under the capable guidance of Madam Choo BL made a visit to the Sungai Dua Health Clinic in Penang on the 18 June 2009. 40 members went in a bus and the aim was to let the students see first hand the running of the clinic and the various services and facilities available.
Members were given a briefing and some lucky members were also given health check up by the nurses there. It was a fun trip too as the students get to know the set up of the clinic plus the services rendered by the clinic to the general public. It was a real learning curve for the students.
All in all it was a fruitful outing and the members actually looked forward to more such outing in the near future. Kudos to the Health Club. Remember health is wealth.
Inculcating Reading Habits

Cadbury Sdn Bhd visited the school and gave a short presentation consisting of talk, quiz and some information on free contest held online.
The talk was about inculcating the reading habit and how it could bring about good moral values. The whole session lasted about 40 minutes. The visit was under Brand X-perience with two facilitators fielding questions o the students.
Civil Defence Cadets Camp
Members of the civil Defence cadets had a camp themed Safety Awareness Programme at the school during the recent school holidays.
The aim of the camp was to first aid, fire fighting and also some general knowledge that the members can use in time of emergency. The camp was jointly organised by the school and the Civil Defence department of Penang or JPA3.
30 members took part together with the teachers advisor, Mr murukasan and Puan Norhidayah. The camp ended with a prize and certificate presentation to the best overall team and cadet.
Congrats to the Civil Defence cadets and hopefully the knowledge gained would be put to good use.

Former form five student of the school, Zulnaidee Zulkifli was caught by The Star photographer while waving goodbye to his nephew Hayqal Nazryel Mustaqiim, 19 months on 17th June 2008 before embarking on his journey to attend the National Service.
Zulnaidee was also a former prefect of the school. Hope he will make good use of the challenges and opportunities at the camp to acquire more knowledge and skills.
So to Zulnaidee, have fun and also a great time. Take care.
Girl Guides in the News
Girl Guides of the school were involved in the celebration of Girl Guide 90th Anniversary on the 11th and 12th June 2009 at the Wisma Pandu Puteri in Penang.
They also took various tests to assess their skills and were captured on film by a journalist from Kwong Hwa press.
They not only enjoyed themselves but also picked up various skills and also networked with guides from other schools. Kudos to all the guides involved and keep the guiding spirit soaring.
Visit to Malacca and Kuala Lumpur

During the recent school holidays members from the Health Club, School Book Loan Club, APD Club and Counselling Club went on a trip to Malacca and Kuala Lumpur.
They visited famous landmarks in Malacca and Kuala Lumpur. Three teacher advisors accompanied the students on the trip.
All in all the students not only got to know the places of interest but they also gained knowledge especially the historical background of the place like the A Formosa in Malacca. They also had a splashing time at the Sunway Lagoon.
First Aid Training

The Civil Defence cadets of the school were given first aid training by an officer from the Civil Defence HQ recently. Incidentally the officer, Lan. Koporal Ahmad Isnani was also a former student of the school.
The cadets learnt various aspect of first aid like bandaging, preparing stretcher and many other useful tips on first aid.
Hopefully the cadet s will utilise the skills they have learnt in real life either at home or in school.
Teacher's Day Celebration 2009

On a bright sunny morning of 29th May 2009, the school celebrated Teacher's Day in the assembly area. As usual speeches were read by selected teachers followed by oath taking by teachers and also singing of the theme song.
This was followed by some performances by students, a futsal and also a telematch for teachers.
Everyone was happy and there were laughter in the air. The celebration ended with a scrumptious lunch sponsored by the canteen caterer En. Khairuddin. A big thank you to you for the support.
