Scouts from Thailand came to support this year's JOTA-JOTI. Sawasdee !

The 52nd Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) and 13th Jamboree On The Internet (JOTI) were held in the school premises from 16th to 18th October 2009. Scouts and guides from many schools took part.

JOTI is an international scout meeting on the Internet and is an official event of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement.

JOTI is combined with the JOTA, an event where Scouts can communicate with each other over amateur radio (ham radio) frequencies.

This year's JOTA-JOTI was rather special as a troop of scouts from Hatyai, Thailand came as guest participants.

SMK Haji Zainul Abidin was represented by a number of scouts and guides. State Scouts Commissioner Zulkafli Kamaruddin,launched the camp and gave away souvenirs to various sponsors of the camp.

To usher in the month of Ramadhan, the Islamic Society of the school recently organised various activities that involved both teachers and students from 13 August 2009 to 17 September 2009.

The highlight was the Khatam al-Quran & Berbuka Puasa programme held on 17 September 2009. Many teachers and students of different faith turned up and the school was honoured to have Tuan Haji Othman bin Husain, Ketua Sektor Pembangunan Kemanusiaan, JPN Pulau Pinang and Ustaz Suhaimi bin Othman, Penolong Pengarah Sektor Pendidikan Islam, JPN Pulau Pinang as the guests of honour.

The school Islamic Society would like to thank the school's principal Mr. Gan Hua Beng, Penolong Kanan Hem En Mohd Sadri bin Abdul Latip, Pen Kanan Pentadbiran En Mohd Nasir bin Othman, Pen Kanan Ko-Kurikulum En Foo Chuat Meng, Ustazah Fazlina, Ustazah Rosmarina, Cik Nor Suhaila, Ustaz Shukri, Pengurus Kantin, all teachers and students for their support.

 The school staff had a fun-filled trip to Pulau Jerejak where most joined in the various activities such as jungle trekking, wall climbing, archery and flying fox.

Joining the trip were the  supporting staff such as the lab assistants and office staff. It was a day of fun and test of mental and physical strength. 

At the end of the day it was like a family day fostering closer rapport among the staff of the school.

Two lucky girl guides from the school were caught by The Star photographer when they were celebrating  the Girl Guides 90th anniversary dinner at the Berjaya Georgetown Hotel, Penang.

The two lucky guides were Yeoh Zi Yuan of 4 Bakti and Lee Shi Yen of 3 Aman. To the two lucky girls, happy guiding.

In conjunction with the recent 52nd National Day celebration, the school had a competition for the best decorated class with the 1Malaysia as the theme.

The competition was divided into two categories. Category one for upper secondary and category 2 for lower secondary.

The following are the results. In the upper secondary the champ was 5A followed by 4A as first runner-up and 3A as second runner-up. In the lower secondary category, 1D emerged champion, 2A as first runner-up and 1E as the second runner-up.
