Recently the girl guides of the school under the capable teacher-advisor Miss Chew organised a trip to Nibong Tebal. The trip was special as it was joined by a Canadian lady guider Ms Ella Schmidt. It was more of an educational trip for the guides. Photo showing the event.

This morning a ping-pong tournament was held at the school canteen and students who registered came to participate. This tournament is organised by the Ping-Pong Club of the school to get ready a second pools of players once the senior leave the school at the end of the year. Photos showing the event.

Mr. Jason of SLC Automotive Academy based in Bukit Mertajam came to the school to a talk on career path after PMR top Form Three students at the multimedia room. This morning Form 3 students of the school took part in the 1 Malaysia Reading Campaign. It was the fourth installation and they had to read a short story and then answered comprehension questions to win an angry bird note book. Many students sportingly raised their hands to answer the questions posed by the teacher-in-charge.

Recently Form 5B and 5D students collaborated and had a prom night at Jade Palace Restaurant. The former and present school principals attended the gathering together with teachers of the school. It was a night of fellowship and good food. Everyone had a good time especially belting out hits to add more glamour to the night. Lucky draws were also held together with a simple cake cutting ceremony. Photos showing the event.

The reading campaign entered its 3rd installation this morning with a quiz on Malay proverbs and idioms. This was followed by a reading activity for Form 3 and Form 4 students. They read the newspapers and then did a simple presentation. Prizes were also given to the students who answered the quiz questions correctly and also those who were bold enough to present their reading at the assembly area. Photos showing the event.

Indian teachers of the school treated all the teachers and staff of the school to a very palatable and titillating brunch at the dining hall of the school this morning. It was in conjunction with the recent Deepavali celebration and in line with the 1Malaysia spirit. The Consumer Club of the school had a small gathering at the canteen yesterday. All the members together with the teachers-advisor attended. This morning saw the KM1M programme entered into the second phase where remove, Form 1 and Form 2 students were given newspapers to read and then a few students came out to present what they had read.

A few students sportingly came out to present in Bahasa Malaysia and English. This is surely a great way to encourage students to read and also to present after reading. Photos showing the event at the assembly area.

This morning saw the school principal officially launching the school level reading campaign after reading out a speech. Students then recite some poems and the event ended with a sing along and quiz. The programme is aimed at getting students to inculcate the habit of reading. Photos showing the event.

The Islamic Studies Panel had a Ramadhan quiz for the muslims students of thew school recently. This morning winner were presented with certificates and medals by the school principal during the school official assembly. Pattipan Kim, a student from the Resource Centre (RESOS) of the school took part in the championship at USM, Penang on 24 September 2011. He hauled a gold medal for 100m and a silver medal for long jump. He went on to win a silver medal in the national level 1 Malaysia Track and Athlete Championship for Special Education in Bukit Jalil Kuala Lumpur in the 100 metres race from 17 October to 21 October, 2011. Students of the school are persistently and consistently trained to park their bicycles and motorcycles in an orderly manner despite not having a bicycle and motor shed. . The fifth formers of the school organized the prom night 2011 at G Hotel poolside and it was attended by a dozen teachers and over 35 students. There were sketches, dance, games, lucky draw, prom king, queen,prince and princess contest. The food was plentiful and sumptuous. Everyone had a great time.

Students taking the PMR soon were given a special briefing on the Dos and Don'ts before, while and after the examination to prepare them mentally to face the examination. They were also given tips on what to do during an emergency. Now that the students are ready hopefully the weather would be merciful during the PMR examination week. Congratulations to the school canteen for being awarded an A grade. Never in the history of the school was such a grade bestowed by the Health Department. Mettananda Vihara organized a blessing cum motivational workshop for students particular those taking the PMR and SPM examinations this year. This workshop is meant for non-muslim students. The theme for the event was "Any Dummy Can Also Do Well in Exam." A certified counsellor was also at hand to solve various areas of concern faced by the students. Teachers of the school took turn to conduct in-house training on various topics ranging from admin to ICT. This is to update the teachers of the school on the current and latest information and also to fulfill the requirement set by the Education Department. The in-house training runs throughout the year. Teachers and all the staff of the school were feted by the PTA of the school in recognition of the teachers' hardwork during the recent Canteen and Information Day 2011 which was successfully carried out. This morning a special assembly was held to commemorate Madam Ho's promotion and tranfer to SMK Alma, Bukit Mertajam. The Boys' Brigade also gave a guard of honour and also presented a souvenir. Students from the Christian Society and Resource Centre sang to entertain and as a gesture of farewell to their beloved teacher and mentor. It was a perfect night for the prefects of the school to have a recognition night bash at the Holiday Inn last week. It was carried out as a form of recognition for all the prefects who had carried out their duty diligently and without fear or favour. The bash was sponsored by the PTA of the school. The school had a simple yet meaningful closing ceremony for the school level 54th Independence Day 2011. The officiating was carried by the school principal who also gave away prizes for competition and contest held during the month long celebration namely quiz, poem recitation, class decoration and patriotic songs singing competition. The students of the school together with the teachers sang patriotically and the ceremony ended with shouts of "merdeka" for seven times led by a teacher. Photos showing the event.

Yesterday the Counselling Unit of the school invited a facilitator from Westland Secondary School to share her expertise on tackling SPM Bahasa Malaysia papers. All the fifth-formers congregated at the school's multimedia room and listened attentively and diligently to her talk. This morning saw three students reciting poems in conjunction with the Merdeka Day celebration. It was part of the school programme and poem recitation was one of them. Prizes will be given out on this coming Monday during the closing ceremony of the celebration. Tomorrow will be the patriotic song singing competition.
