On a sunny morning of 2 August 2008, the school carried out the annual cross-country successfully without any untoward incident.
The majority of the students came to enjoy themselves sportingly thus fostering goodwill and sportmanship. Some came empty handed but returned with lucky draw prizes. A student walked to school but went home on a bicycle he won from the lucky draw. Congrats!
During the run some RESOS students took the opportunity to entertain those students finished the run early in the aseembly area. A big thanks to you guys!
The most important thing was every one went home happily!
Speech and Prize Giving Day 2008

The Speech and Prize Day 2008 was held in the school canteen on 25th July 2008 at 3.00pm
There was a big turn out. Many parents also brought along their little ones. The event was officiated by the PTA chairman En. Abdul Manap. He later gave prizes to the outstanding students followed by the school principal.
Congrats to the prize winners. The event ended with a performance by the RESOS students and also the school's cultural and language society.

An unfortunate incident happened to a student of the school whose house was burnt to the ground. Upon knowing this incident, the Senior Assistant for Students' Affair Ustaz Suhaimi passed the hat around and collected money from teachers and students to help our fellow student.
Talking about a caring society, Haji Zainul Abidin leads. Keep up the good work. A school in need is a real school indeed!

Aerobic during Fitness Month 2008

The school carried out a mass exercise on 17th of July 2008 in conjunction with the Fitness Month declared by the Ministry of Education. The theme for this year is " Kecergasan Pemangkin Kecemerlangan Modal Insan" which translates to be "Fitness a catalyst to human resource excellence."
The aerobic exercise was led by the evergreen and everfit Mr. Jeorge Subramaniam the well-known aerobic leader in Penang.

The students had a field day strutting their stuff to the tune of delightful music in full blast. The teachers sportingly took part to the amusement of many.
The aerobic exercise ended an hour later with a token of appreciation to Mr. Jeorge. On behalf of the management and students of SMK Haji Zainul a big THANK YOU to you.

Retirement of Pn. Zaiton Beebi

On 25th June 2008, we lost a long serving teacher who had been with us for almost 18 years. She is none other than our KH or Living Skills teacher, Pn. Zaiton as she is fondly known as. The school takes this opportunity to wish Pn. Zaiton a happy retirement and hope that she will continue to visit us at SMKHZA anytime. For us staff over here Pn. Zaiton will always be remembered for her nice cuppa of teh tark and nescafe. Pn. Zaiton, we will certainly think of you during any jamuan held in school.

Teacher's Day was celebrated on the 23rd May 2008 at the school's assembly area. Speeches by the Director and Minister of Education were read and after that followed by a speech each by the school principal Mr. Gan Hua Beng and the head prefect Chan Eu Fei of 5 Aman. Students from various clubs and societies put up some performances. The teachers were treated to a sumptious meal by the canteen operator Mr. Khairuddin of KM One enterprise. On behalf of the staff, a big thank you to the generous Mr. Khairuddin. Happy Teacher's Day.
School Sport Day at USM

The school sports day was held at USM, Penang on the 17th April 2008. It was a great success as no students were injured and the weather was fine and sunny.The sport day was officated by the chairman of PTA, En. Abdul Manap. This year Blue House emerged as the overall champion under the capable guidance of Cik Norsuhaila. Syabas and congrats! For those who did not do well, do not despair. Try again next year.
A Visit By Eng Teknologi Holdings Bhd

The sponsor of The Star newspaper, Eng Teknologi Holdings Bhd paid a visit to our school at 10.30 am together with their marketing staff, reporter and photographer from the newspaper. The team from Eng Teknologi Holdings Bhd was headed by Datuk Gillian and two staff members while The Star was led by its marketing executive Miss Eileen. After some light refreshments, they were taken to 3 Aman where an NIE class was conducted by Mr Foo Chuat Meng. The class ended at 11.10 am with a photo session and an interview with The Star newspaper.

Our school's "sukan tara" was held a couple of weeks ago and all the sport houses were busy collecting "points" so that their sport house would be in the lead for the title of "Champion" in our up and coming Sports Day that will be held somewhere in April.

We kicked off our Co-curriculum activities for the year of 2008 on 22th January. "Taekwando" is one of the activities offered to the students. The students were so gung-ho about their first taekwando class that they couldn't contain their excitement! It was the same for the other uniformed units like Girl Guides, Scouts, Boys Brigade, KRS and Bomba.
